Fascinating Tidbit

A former Peace Corps Volunteer, then trainer and now Samoan citizen that we know is having twins with his wife. They are having the babies here in Samoa.

Do you know how much it costs to have a baby (or two babies or a cesarian for that matter) at the National Hospital in Samoa?

Four tala.

That's $4 tala.

You know what that is in USD right now?

$1.28. One dollar and twenty-eight cents.

That is outrageous!

OMG thats CRAZYYYYYY. granted, the hospital ive seen def does not look like the ones we have here. also i hear dental is super cheap too. but i also know nothing about the quality. franny has NEVER had any work done on his teeth, they are perfect and capable of ripping into sugar cane like nothing. i on the other hand, have had 3 root canals, two of which are both on my front teeth. and several fillings throughout.

Now, if it only took $4 tala to RAISE twins, not, that would be a true marvel!

whatever said...

It's 0, nada tala if you have a baby at home in Samoa, maybe a chicken and a basket of taro will do for the midwife.
